Rev. Washington is the pastor and founder of Full Gospel Evangelistic Temple, Inc. She was ordained a minister October 16, 1972, after completing two years at Miracle Arizona Bible College, by Grace Calvary Church of Faith, one of the groups associated with A.A. Allen. She is the first woman in El Paso who pastored and built a church. She received her Bachelor of Bible Theology from International Seminary, Plymouth, Fla. She received her Master of Divinity Degree and Doctor of Theology from Americus University, IBC, British Virgin Island. She was appointed Superintendent of the Western District Christ Holy-Sanctified Churches of America. She left that organization in 1991. She joined the Texas Western Jurisdiction, Feburary 1998. She was the president of the Evangelistic Team, she was the Jurisdictional Secretary, and was installed as Dean of the El Paso Campus of the C. H. Mason System of Bible College, December 2000. She left the COGIC in October 2006 and was Consecrated and inaugurated as the Presiding Bishop( first woman Bishop in El Paso) of the Full Gospel Evangelistic Fellowship International, Inc. on December 10, 2006, in El Paso, Texas.
She attended El Paso Vocational School of Nursing, graduating in 1970. She received the honor of being number four in the nation for her National League of Nurses (NLN) scores. She attended UTEP School of Nursing from
1974 to 1976, then she entered the New York Board of Regents Registered Nursing Program until her completion 1980.
She started the first Endoscopy Department in the city of El Paso at Hotel Dieu Hospital, after attending the Southwest Medical Association Seminar-Workshop in 1971. She started the first Chemo-Therapy-Oncology Unit at Hotel Dieu, and was responsible for bringing the concept of Laser-Therapy to the city of El Paso. This unique technique she learned after attending The Milwaukee,Wisconsin School of Medicine Hands on Workshop for Endoscopy-Laser Physicians and Auxillary Workers. She helped to organize the first Laser Hands on Workshop for El Paso and surrounding area doctors sponsored by Hotel Dieu and Texas Tech Medical School, in 1984. She was the supervisor of the Endoscopy-Laser-Chemotherapy Department until she was medically retired from Hotel Dieu Hospital, in 1987.
She has been involved in civil rights activities since the early 1950's, becoming more involved with these activities after joining the civil rights
movement under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in Augusta, Ga. She was the president of the El Paso Branch NAACP for twenty-two
years and retired in 2004.
She is the past Chair of the Board of Directors for El Paso Black Chamber of Commerce. She was president of the El Paso Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, becoming the first woman president in its history. She was also the first woman to become a member of the alliance, some thirty-four years ago.
She was a member of the Attorney General's Child Support Board, the only Black for over ten years, the El Paso Housing Authority Board, member of the Women's Auxillary of El Paso Greater Chamber, member of President Clinton's Nationwide Race Relation Committee, and has served on numerous others. She has numerous awards and honors: Several Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degrees for Humanitarians Services, Southern Evangelistic Associate, 1974, World Church League of Bible Colleges, 1978,etc.; Outstanding Mother of the Year Award, 1976; Outstanding Black Personality Award, White Sands, 1979; listed in Who's Who Among Black America, 1980; Outstanding Woman of the Year (Religion) Deltas, 1988; The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award, MLK Committee, 1992; Public Service Award Afro-American Cultural Association UTEP, 1992; The City of El Paso's Conquistador Award, 1992; inducted into the El Paso Women's Hall of Fame, 1992; Grand Marshall for the El Paso Black History Parade, 1993 and 2000; inducted into Who is Who Among College and University Students Majoring in the field of Nursing and Allied Health. All students must have a grade point average of no lower than 3.8 to be inducted, 1993; Received the Community Service Award, U. S. Justice Department, 1994; the County of El Paso's Del Norte Award, January 1998; listed as Outstanding People of the Twentieth-Century, International Biological Centre, Cambridge, England; Black History Parade Grand Marshall for Church, 2001. She received the Jurisdictional Secretary of the Year Award from the Churches of God in Christ, and was given a National appointment as Regional Director of Jurisdictional Secretaries in November 2001. This is just a partial list of her accomplishments and awards.
She is a humanitarian, and is in demand as an expert lecturer in Black History and Bible History. She is God’s anointed preacher, teacher, and gifted prophetess with the gift of dreams, visions and interpretations. God has demonstrated all nine gifts of the Spirit through this handmaiden.
She is a published author, having written a book titled “God’s Power For God’s Church,” published by Trafford Publishing in December 2004 and is commissioned to write a book about her tenure as president of the NAACP by Actor/Director/Producer Forrest Whittaker. She is in the process of completing it now.
She is the mother of two children and has raised six others.
