The El Paso Branch affiliate of The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is dedicated to the education of minority groups and citizens of our community. We are proud to have the Scholarship Fund to assist in this endeavor.

America’s history is an inspirational story of pioneers who gambled their lives and those of their families in search of liberty and freedom. But that remarkable history bears the taint of a history that challenged these lofty goals with years of denying freedom and liberties to many of its people. Spanning centuries, America has persecuted racial and ethnic groups, women, children and those of sexual orientation. Amidst these abuses, those heaped upon the African immigrant have been the most long lasting and cruelest. From its inception, slavery in America established and institutionalized the denial of civil and human rights to people brought forcibly onto American soil.
In 1909, a group of sixty citizens, Black & White banned together to establish an organization that remains the single organization linked to civil rights advocacy throughout the world; the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Known internationally as the NAACP, this organization quickly established branches throughout the United States of America.
The first branch of the NAACP in Texas was established in El Paso in 1915. The founding of this unit cannot be told without the relating of the life of its most noted chartering member, Dr. L.A. Your assistance is needed in researching the History of the NAACP El Paso Branch for the past 91 or 94 years. We are seeking written or oral documentations of our history. The deadline is May 1, 2009. El Paso Branch was founded in 1915 and Charter in April 1918, Mr. William Henderson was the first President. What we are looking for is Who, What, When, Where and time period - 1930 Civil Case is an example; names of Past Presidents of the branch and other contributors as far back as you can ascertain. El Paso Branch of the NAACP Annual Freedom Fund and Awards Banquet NAACP Field Organizer, Ms. Alethea Bonello to deliver the Keynote Address
NAACP, El Paso, Texas — July 22, 2011 — The El Paso Branch of the NAACP will host its Annual Freedom Fund and Awards Banquet on Saturday, August 20, 2011. This year’s theme is “Affirming America’s Promise”; the event will be held at the Wyndham El Paso Airport Hotel. The Social Gathering will commence at 6:00pm with the Banquet beginning promptly at 7:00pm. The branch will recognize prominent El Pasoans for their outstanding contributions to the community and award scholarships to deserving young students.
The special guest speaker is Ms. Alethea R. Bonello. Ms. Bonello has been involved with the NAACP since 1989. She has held various positions including State Youth President of Florida, Regional Youth Chairwoman and National Youth Work Representative. She has received numerous awards. Alethea has been a life member of the Association since 1994. Alethea joined the National staff of the NAACP on August 17, 1998. She has served as Branch Liaison, Branch Operations Manager and Regional Youth Field Director for the Southeast Region. Formerly, she served as the Southeast Region Field Director who implemented multi-faceted advocacy campaigns on key issues; trained and mobilized Units, members and stakeholders to advance the NAACP’s strategic goals and objectives for the Southeast Region which encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Alethea is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at Oxford Graduate School, matriculating in Social Research and the Integration of Religion and Society. She sows positive seeds of love, truth and faith into today's youth, the heirs of America's promise.
